  • Should I reschedule visitor visa appointment due to outbreak of corona virus?

    Hello Everyone,

I am sponsoring my parents visa(first time) and they have appointment in Mumbai on 18 March 2020. I was planning to bring them for August-September(Only two months) and instructed them to say same thing in interview. Now that the Indian government have declared citizens should avoid traveling abroad, will that affect the decision of USCIS. Are there any people going for interview and getting approvals? Will USCIS consider this outbreak situation and reject the visa ? If not should my parents say the same thing that they are planning to travel in August or should they say once situations are better we will decide to travel? Or USCIS will think that If travel is not sure then how come they are applying for the visa now?

    Please advise

Any way they will give 10 years visitor visa, they can just say August -Sep is tentative. My suggestion you get the visa stamping, later plan the visit.

Indian govt suggested to avoid, not banning it.

They can say that the plan is for August if the situation gets better, or else they will postpone the visit for later.

No, that won't happen, stay positive.

Issuance of visa is one thing. Traveling is another thing. The embassies (as of now) are still open and currently operating. Assuming your parents pass the interview, they can use their visitor visa any time and don't necessarily have to travel soon. If your plans change after the visa is issued, it doesn't negate the visitor visa.

Good luck. I learned the hard way, I hope you don't have to. Immigration is interesting. Not considered as legal advice.

US embassies have cancelled the appointments in certain countries now.
