  • Which visa to apply for spouse?

My company is sending me to US in next month (July 2010). I am applying for B1/B2 visa. I am willing to take my wife also. She has the passport. But in her passport my name (spouse name) is empty (As she got the passport before our wedding).

Based on the above case, here are my queries:

    1) Which visa to apply for my wife? B2 will hold good?
    2) If it is for B2, is spouse name is required in her passport? We do have marriage certificate and that is enough?
    3) If it is B2, it has be taken similar to 'dependant' visa?
Even she must have get the invite from someone from US? Or she can just say she is dependant on me.

I have read the below link:

Still have few queries which i am not been able to recall. Will post here after some time.

    1) Yes
    2) Not required. Marraige cert is enough
    3) B2 is same for everybody. Invitation letter should mention both names.

Thanks a lot sk4ih. These answers were really helpful.

      Got another query.
While applying for Visa receipt in HDFC bank, do they ask for this invite?

No. Just copy first page of passport.

          Thanks sk4ih.
Sorry to bother again. I have one more important query.
My wife is working as a teacher in a nearby school. Her income is very less, so that salary she gets is by cash. There wont be any receipt also for the salary, as it will be way less than minimum Income Tax level.

She does not even have PAN card, bank account etc. Moreover there is no joining letter or offer letter from the school. All these are done by oral agreement. But she will get permission for 1 or 2 months to visit US with me. And that is also oral.

In the visa interview, if the officer asks if she is working, what must be her response? There wont be any proof that she is working in the school. I remember reading in some of the link of this website saying we should not lie to the officer. As there is no proof, can she say she is just house wife and not working? Or can she say that she was working in the school before and now she resigned and just a housewife?
