Letter of consent from ex-husband for mother traveling to US with her son

My wife's best friend will be traveling with her son to the states to visit us for a couple weeks. They both have tourist visas. Does she need a letter of consent from her ex-husband to allow her to travel with her son? She's not on talking terms with her ex-husband and we would like to know if this could be a potential problem for her travel.
