  • two one way ticket for travel

    Hi
My mom needs to travel from India. I am in Boston. She is having company till NY. So, she is going to travel by Jet to NY.
Can I buy one way from MAA-NY ? Then have a return ticket from BOS-MAA using another airline or same airline. I may be travelling back with her and there might be date changes.

Does having two one way tickets ( from MAA-NY & return BOS-MAA ) cause problems? The ticket agency is confusing and I do not want to lose a whole lot of money because I am sure we will travelling from BOS-MAA ( not via NY on return ).

I hope it is clear. Please reply.
    Thanks
    R

If I am the VO, all I care is if the second ticket (same reservation or not) takes the non-immigrant out of the US of A before the Visa expires. Where they land, not my concern as long as it is not someplace in the US of A.

Thanks Bernie. The travel agency is pushing me saying they can issue ONLY roundtrip ticket (and there will be less to nothing as refund since it is partly used ticket). Are you sure about this? Anyone who has had similar situation?

      Any help appreciated
      Thanks

May be time for a new travel agency, eh? Better still, try the airline website for direct booking. I have flown Jet (9W) from BOM to JFK one way (I am a US Citizen) but I had flown to DEL from JFK on AI outbound from US on that trip. There you can make 2 one way reservations - you may pay a bit more but you know what you are looking for in terms of convenience and costs. Don't know if I answered your questions. Travel agents are going the way of you know..as far as all my travels are concerned.

US immigration people don't care whether you have one roundtrip ticket or you have two one way ticket, as long as you have the confirmed ticket to go back when you enter the U.S.

However, you can not try to enter the U.S. on a one way ticket and have not yet decided when you will go back and think of purchasing another one way ticket later.

Thats helpful Thank you Immihelp and Bernie.
I dont have the return dates exact as I will be travelling back with her too for sure in Dec. No plans to extend stay. Well, let me see what best to do ( it will be more people travelling back with her and I did not want to bind since everyone needs permission from school / work etc..)

All I can say is that immigration law does not work according to your conveniences or constraints.
