visitor visa: is this common

My parents went for visitor visa at Delhi consulate. After the interview they have been asked to deposit some money and that they will be contacted in about 15 days after some verification. The embassy ppl gave back their passports too.

Now, I was just curious to know if this is quite usual or if this is a rejection or what? Could someone please advice.

It is not really rejection until they specifically tell you that. Wait for them to get back to you.

do cases like this happen quite often? do ppl really get the visa with such situation.......

Not very often.

Outcome can be either way: approval or rejection, depending upon the actual investigation.
