  • taking english appt and asking for a translator

i have been looking for hindi language appointment for my in-laws at new delhi consulate since more than a month now. have spent many sleepless nights but no luck till now.I am thinking of taking an english appt and then letting my in-laws ask for a hindi translator at the time of appointment. they are from a small village and not able to converse in english. has anyone else had this kind of experience (taking english appt and asking for a translator at the time of appt. at new delhi)-pls guide as i am tired of looking for hindi dates-seems like its a never ending search!

If they can't talk in English, you need to take Hindi appointment. Keep trying.

      Hi

So its 22July today & it was my mum's visa interview date ( if u remmbr i told ya earlier) she just got her visa approval for 10yrs & multiple entires at 10.30am (IST). I was also searching for Hindi dates but got tired so took in English..here is her experience :---

She was in queue ( it was same for all languages)..
Her documents was seen & chckd by some security guy & got some token ( normal checking, if she has every essential draft receipt etc wd her or not)..
      Gave her finger prints..
Ques-Ans wd VO (American-gora)..He started in english as Lang selection ws English..
      VO- Passport mam ?
      Mum- showed.
VO- where r u going ( dunn knw why he started in hindi) kaha ja rahi hai mam ?
      Mum- Seattle,WA
VO- kisse milne ja rahi hai ?
      Mum- Beti aur damaad
VO- Apke husband kaha kaam karte hai ?
Mum- Central Gov employee hai Ra***ays me
VO- Apke kitane bachhe hai ?
Mum- 3 ( thn told wat r they doing all in hindi)
VO- aap kabhi bahar gayi hai ?
      Mum- Ji nahi
VO- "smiled at her" & said theek hai mam jaiye apko visa mil jayega, have a safe journey back home..

So this was her full experience at her visa interview..VO was really very nice. My was able to answer in english but i was luking for hindi dates just to avoid any confusion out of their accent. But believe me dunn wrry and give it a shot VO'sr very nice our there they understand that English is problem within senior citizens..Its all a rumor spreaded by agents so they can make money..My mum was saying to me..Oh beta tum to aise hi pareshan ho rahi thi vaha sb log itane achhe the aur sabhi ki help kr rahe the" hihihi..

So good luck for everyone who is trying for visa dates & visa approval...I am very happy today...on 7th world

Hey many thanks & ye it ws Delhi itself..I guess "appt" stands for appointment, isnt it? So, its like they reached there by 8.30am & her interview was at 10.30 ( as written on application letter) but she was asked to enter the main room at 10.15am only till thn she was in queue. After that same steps happened which I told ya..understanding & talking in any south Indian or bengali lang. may be a prblm for VO's but Hindi is easy even for 'em.. So dunn wrry ur in-laws r going to see u guys v.soon..Gud luck & get ready to mail me some laddooss :P

              in-laws got visa

My in-laws got their visa at new delhi consulate on friday. first, they had a VO who asked them qs in english with accent. they were not able to understand a thing, so they requested him to ask qs in hindi after which he asked them to go to another counter where a young guy asked them qs in hindi. he was very polite and smiling all the time.

VO: Show me ur daughter's visa
we did not send them my wife's visa since i was sponsoring them.
Dad: We do not have daughter's visa. Here is son-in-law's visa

VO looked at the visa (I-797 and visa stamp copy), checked in computer for 4-5 mins and then asked
VO: Was it an arranged marriage?
              Dad: Yes
VO: Tell me more about the process.
Dad: It was arranged marriage. My son-in-law's parents contacted us and then the girl and boy met each other and .....he described the process of arranged marriage.

VO smiled and asked: What do you do?
              Dad: I am a businessman.
VO: What kind of business you do?
              Dad told about his business

VO: Aapka Visa Manzoor ho gaya hai (Your visa has been approved).

thanks to everyone on this forum for posting ur experiences. and Contagious you definitely deserve some laddoos!!
