  • Mother's application for B2 visa rejected- please advice!

My mother's visa application was rejected on 07/27/10 at the New Delhi consulate. The reason given is 214(b). She had carried documents showing that she owns property in Delhi and also mentioned the fact that her younger daughter is a student in Delhi and my father is also in Delhi.

The official didn't ask for any documents but went ahead and simply rejected her application. The only asked that was repeated to her is the following- " why are you traveling alone, where is your husband?" My mother tried to reason stating that my father wouldn't travel as he needs to stay with my sister and also the fact that he is still working part time post retirement in a private firm. But I guess this doesn't suffice.

I did read through all the forum but am unable to decide on how to reapply for my mother's visa. She mentioned tourism as the reason for travel and that she would be visiting her daughter, son in law and her son ( my brother is working in US). The real reason though is my pregnancy which is a high risk one and I desperately need my mother to be here with me. We decided not to mention pregnancy as the chances of rejection are higher in those cases. My mother is planning to reapply in a couple of week's time-
    1) Is it better for her to reapply with my father to prove that they are traveling together and that they would return since they have an unmarried daughter back in india? or should she just reapply alone with additional documents?

    2) what are the additional documents she should carry?

    3) is there any way of making the official look at your documents since most of the time they don't even ask for it?

Kindly help as I am really disappointed.

By any chance did she ever mention that you were expecting... this could be a cause for rejection.

I would suggest that you re-apply for both your parents.

      ,Best of Luck.

thanks for the response. No she didn't mention my pregnancy fearing visa rejection. She's reapplying again but we are not sure whether she should apply alone or together with my father. The issue is my father can't travel right now as there are other concerns he has to take care of in India. But would her going alone make her case weak?

better for both to apply together

your father applying for visa along with your mother does not imply that both of them will be going to US together. they can apply for visa together and if they get the visa, they can go alone at different times.
