  • USMLE step 2 CS visa

I am an IMG, graduated in June 2009. I have already cleared USMLE step 1 and step 2 ck with a score of 99 in both the test. now I intend to take the step 2 CS and I have few doubts regarding the VISA.Any kind soul please answer my questions.

    1) I have scheduled my test appointment in early November and I also have an Observership at a reputed University hospital. Can I show the confirmation letter of the Observership to the officer?

    2) My brother is a Resident in US..He is on J-1 VISA..does this have any effect on my visa approval?

    3) I have filled in the online DS-160 FORM that I intend to stay for a period of 6 months in the US..friends over here advised me to change it to 3 months.can I change it now.

Sorry for many questions..I'm worried..please help me out

    Thank You

    1. Difficult to say as there are positives & negatives.

    2. That should not have any impact however will have to be declared in the form where they as who are other relatives residing in the US.

    3. I am not sure -- I haven't done this.

#1 maybe positive , In the positive note you already have someting, however how do you show that you have financial means to support yourself - will your brother support you ?

#1 negative its not a paid position..

Thank You for your prompt reply.

I have declared that my brother is in US and my parents are going to support me.
If they ask me the reason for 6 months stay, can I tell that I intend to apply for this year's matching and attend the interviews?

----Not sure how will the VO take this, but he might take that you are abusing the purpose of your visit. if you have not taken the appointment then you can change the DS160. You can fill up for 3 or 6 months depending upon your comfort level.

To apply for the match and get the interview you need your STEP2 CS cleared and that will take a month or so after you appear the CS2 exams by that time it will be november end or dec starting and you will miss lot of opportunities during the month of november and dec which is the peak time.

Ask as many questions as you can to the dummy patient even some of them are not revelant. But make sure you ask most of the relevant questions pertaining to the case you get.

I wish good luck to you on your CS2 exams and your visa.
