renewing US tourist visa

HI. i have a US tourist visa that will expire on January 2011. i'll be going to the US this december. is it ok if i just renew my visa when i come back next year on April? or should i renew it before i leave this dec.help!!

thanks for your reply. but if i leave on dec, im worried that they might just give me a month to stay in the US..is that possible?
