  • Visa application after new nationality

    Hello

Quick introduction: I am from a VWP country (Italy) and travelled to the US 4 times before, including once on a student visa (1996, twice 2005, 2011), never stayed over three weeks.
I have what I consider a very good job (airline Captain, salary around USD 10,000 net a month, employed for over 15 years with same company), recently bought a property in my home country.
The reason I am writing is because my wife (married for 7 years) was previously rejected a B1/2 visa twice, being a Thai national that applied in Tokyo in 2005 for work purposes and Milan in 2019 on 214 (b) grounds.
She recently became an Italian citizen, she is unemployed and we have no kids.
My age is 38 and her is 42.
I believe that she will not be able to use her Italian passport for ESTA/VWP due to previous visa denial, hence the need to apply for a visa.
I would really like to travel to the US with her since I have not visited for long time, but she is afraid of applying for a visa again. We share a strong travel history together in all continents (Africa, Maldives, SE Asia, Japan, UAE, South America and of course Europe).

I wanted to ask if you believe becoming an Italian citizen would be strong proof of ties with Italy if she applies again, or would look even worse in terms of being a person that left her native country (to work in Japan for 6 years, and then after marriage to live and naturalize as Italian)?
If I were to apply for the visa with her, do you think the consular officer would interview both of us together, so we could prove that we are a real family with strong ties to Italy?
She previously brought a lot of supporting documents but was never asked more than a couple of questions.

    Thanks for your help.
