Visitor Visa B2 when H1B visa pending under 221(g)

I was working in U.S. with H1B status. I had visa extension approval from USCIS until Dec2010. So I came to India in April 2010 on vacation. I had two visits to Mumbai consulate for visa but the case is pending under 221(g).

In this situation, can I apply for tourist Visa B2 and make trip to U.S? Any experience in this regard would help. Please write. Thanks in advance

You can apply for visitors visa, as long as the purpose of your visit would be to just visit.
