Visitor Visa Dropbox appointment

The dropbox appointment for my dad is scheduled for the 31 May. His current visa expires on 22nd May. He is 90 years and we are trying to get him here by the first week of May. When checking the website, there are no dates until September. Is there an alternate option given his age ? Do we have to keep checking to find an alternate date ? Is there a fee for rescheduling ? Is it possible to travel in the first week of May using the current visa since it doesn't expire until end of May ? Typically he stays 4 to 5 months every time he visits.

The visa expiration is the limit on when he can ENTER the US. I would think he's OK to get here in early May and then schedule an interview for some time after he is going to return to his country. Just because he is old and you want him here isn't an "emergency" that's going to get you a faster appointment.

Thank you for the response. Its good to know that the expiration is just for entry. However, will the tenure of his stay (as stamped in the passport) be impacted by the fact that the visa would be expiring soon ?

His period of stay will be affected so time is something you need to do immediately to help him travel to the end of his life.

No, even if your visa expires during your stay, you are still allowed to enter the country for the timeframe and under the conditions that were approved by the Department of Homeland Security official when you entered the country and were stamped in your passport. More details are available here.
