Validity of visitor vis and return tickets

Hello,

My mother-in-law in planning to come and visit us late Nov and her 10 year visitor visa is expiring end of Jan 2011.
Would it be better to purchase her return ticket till the visa validity date in case she is asked to show her return ticket and / or asked questions about her return date as she is traveling so near her visa expiration date?

Any input highly appreciated!!!

You can book the ticket for whatever duration she wants to visit up to a max of 6 months. She can show that return ticket at POE and request stay up to that date, if granted she can leave by that date. Visa expiry does not matter.

Thanks for the response. Just thinking out loud, will it not be better/safer to purchase return tickets for the duration of the visa validity (and then rescheduling the date later based on the D/S date) instead of 6 months or a month or so less, so as to not be that confident in front of the VO @ POE that she would get 6 months by default.......only in case he/she asks to show the return ticket!
