Entry permit expired,should reapply?

May parents were supposed to Enter USA before Feb. 16, 2005.My father got heart attack a week earlier and can not come before 16th.Do they have to re-apply for visitor visa or thay can get it extended on the basis of medical report? They have a six month visa stamped on the passports expiring on Feb. 16,2005.Can my mother also extend her visa as she was accompanying my father or she has to re-apply in any case because she did not get delayed by any medical condition.

There is no provision to extend it like that, no matter what reason.
