  • Tourist Visa For My Half Brother Who Lives in Denmark

My half brother and his family have been living in Denmark since 1992. He entered the country as Bosnian refugee in 1992 with the wife and two children. He obtained asylum status for himself and his family, he and his wife found jobs, bought the house, got two more children who were born in Denmark. My brother retired back in June of this year and he would like to come for visit. To my understanding he is still Bosnia and Herzegovina citizen because he mailed to us copy of 'alien passport'. He can support himself on this trip and we do not have to sponsor him but we will if it is necessary. We haven't seen each other since 1992 and since he is not working he would like to come for visit. Also, one of the reasons is that my daughter is getting married in February of 2011.

He is my half brother (younger of two - he has elder brother who lives in Bosnia and Herzegovina). We had the same father but different mothers. Their mother passed away when they were kids so my mother raised all three of us. I have seen him the last time in June of 1992. I have been in Bosnia several times but we never managed to go at the same time.
My family came to USA in December of 1996 from refugee camp in Hungary. We entered so called 'working program' and started working in April of 1997. I have been employed in the same company all these years. Our daughter She graduated from University Of WA in 2009 and she is enrolled in the Grad School Program at the same university. All three of us are USA citizens since 2007 and obtain valid USA passports.

My brother mailed us copies of his passport, driving license, health card copy and residence permit. My question is - do we need to file sponsorship application and also, do we need some other documents from him?

If they can show that they can take care of the expenses themselves during their visit to the U.S., you don't have to sponsor them. Otherwise, you do.
