Can I get a US B-1/B-2 visa before starting my job?

Hello everyone, to give you some context, I live in Canada, I'm a foreign worker currently on a work permit. I'm applying for a job that requires me to, in their own words "be able to cross the US border ".

So I'm guessing that means I need a US B-1/B-2 visa. My question is, since this is also a business visa, is it possible to get this visa before I start my job? Or is that something that the company would have to sponsor for me?
