  • Any insights on applying from a third country?

Schedules for interview for B1/B2 in my country are currently taking more than a year. In a neighbor country it's around 60 days. Is it a good idea to apply for it there even if I don't have ties there and trying to explain the situation?

For B1/B2 you need to prove ties to your home country (not from where you applying for). The problem with applying from third country is that the VO there might not be able to run a background check for you, neither he/she may be able to verify the authenticity of your documentations (in your local language, document types etc.)

      Thanks Libra_14!

My documents are all in English. What I plan to present are bank statements, employment contract in my country and payslips, contract of purchase of my property, birth certificates of my children. Do you think this would suffice/be credible in a neighboring country?

Meaning, could this be misconstrued as consulate shopping if my biggest consideration to do this is the lead time for an interview in my home country? Is this an acceptable practice, especially during these times of extreme backlog in some places?

It's not only about the language, but also about the type of document. For example, other countries might not understand what an SSN is, even though it is written in English.

          I don't think it will
affect result of your visa application.

I've seen applicant going to third country (specially Mexico & Canada) were asked to go to their home country without issuing visa, but their application was not rejected either.
