Visitor Visa for Brother

Hi - i am a naturalized US Citizen & my elder brother (married 39yrs old have 2 kids) would like to visit me in US this Christmas. He will not be able to bring his wife and kids due to some other family committments and kids school. My brother has his own business with steady income but his income tax return does not reflect that. I have 2 questions.

1. Should my brother go for interview alone or should he apply for his whole family & then later just come alone?
2. Should he show he is self financing the trip or should he show me financing his trip?

1. Whoever is planning to visit the US should apply.
2. If he can't legally show that he makes enough money, someone needs to sponsor him.

Thanks for the reply. Are there better chances of getting the visa if he applies as a whole family rather then just himself? My brother is planning to visit us again later in summer along with his family. If i am not sponsoring, other then invitation letter, do i need to send any other documents?
