  • German Transit Visa

    Hi,
    It is not required to have German transit visa if you have a valid US/Canada/Switzerland visa. Check this link:
    Germany Embassy to India: detailed information on German Embassy and Consulates locations, including addresses, e-mails and phone numbers

    It says

    2)Travellers who do not intend to leave the transit lounge in/at a German airport also require transit visa, unless they have a valid visa for one of the EC countries (non-Schengen-countries), Switzerland, Canada or the U.S.A.

    In immihelp(https://www.immihelp.com/non-usa-transit-visa/) it is stated otherwise? Can you double check on this please?

    I am not sure whether German embassy website in New Delhi is up to date or not.

    Look at http://www.germany-info.org/relaunch...t.html#except1

    This is Germany embassy website in Washington DC, USA.

      If they have a valid visa for USA/Canada/Switzerland they need not have a transit visa

      In our site(immihelp) it is:
      For Indian citizens, you are greencard holder or US citizen, you do NOT require transit visa. All other non-immigrants(visitors, H1 workers etc.) that are Indian citizens DO require transit visa, even if not getting out of the airport.

        Also,
        Airline agents are not clear of this even. Out of 8 agents inquired, 6 say they don't need? Probably Lufthansa guys in India can answer. You might be aware, Lufthansa started non-stop HYD-Frankfurt from Feb 18th That is cool!

          Yes, I know about HYD-Frankfurt new flight that started on Feb 18.

          Looks like German consulate New Delhi website is not updated yet as this transit visa rule is quite new. Just came last week.

          Obviously, most travel agents would not be familiar with such latest changes. They will hear about it slowly.

          Lufthansa is not saying much. They are essentially saying "Airline is not responsible for making sure what all documents you need. You figure that out yourself". Look into experiences section on this website where someone has posted an answer from Lufthansa.

            URGENT HELP: German transit VISA

            Not wanting to thread crap, but any information is welcome

            ~~~
            My father is returning back to Bangalore via Frankfurt tomorrow. He has a tourist visa to the USA and didnt have to deal with this when he traveled to the US on Oct18, 2004.
            I have enough time to drive him to the airport and want to explore the possibility of not having to get a transit visa. Please tell me that I dont need to get transit visa.
            1. Can I take advantage of the grace period?
            2. Academic question: Assuming one were to travel without a transit visa what would happen? WIll the person have to remain on the plane? Guess, the airline wont be too happy ?
            OK. I did a lot of reading and this is where it stands regardin the info from consulates
            TRANSIT VISA REQUIRED:
            CHICAGO: NO
            HOUSTON : NO
            NY : NO
            BOSTON : YES
            Where did you find all the info about the grace period, I cant find it on any of the web pages on german embassy.
            I spoke to Lufthansa, what b **** ***! Last week, when I rescheduled the flight they didnt say a thing about transit visa. When I called them this morning, they say that INFORMATION REGARDING TRANSIT VISA WILL BE DISCLOSED ONLY IF THE TRAVELER ASKS FOR IT. What crap!
