    germany transit visa

    Hi

My parents are coming in Indian Airlines from Bombay to Chicago and refueling for the flight is done at Frankfurt. Do they need to take the transit visa for that. In that case do they need to take the visa while coming here and also going from here. Please let me know soon.

    Thanks
    Kris

      rkaliki

      Hi,
I am travelling to US on 16 Apr 05 from Bangalore to LA by Air India AI 127 which transits through Frankfurt and involves change of aircraft. I checked up with Air India and Luftansa. Both said that transit visa is NOT required. Can any one who has travelled in March 05 throw some light on what exactly happened in their case.
      Would appreciate your help.
      Thanks

Transit visa applies only for few cases

        Hi all,

I had done some inquiry myself since I am travelling to india (and back) soon.

The idea is like this :
If u go to Frankfurt and then take another connecting flight from the same terminal, then u do not need any transit visa.

But if ur connecting flight happens to be from a different terminal, then u hv to get out of that terminal to reach the other one. In this case, u shud hv a transit visa to get out of the first terminal.

So, check with ur ticketing agency abt this first. Most of the authorised agents like Carlson-Wagonlit or Amex would take care of this during ticket booking. They would also clearly say that transit visa is not required.

        Hope this was useful !!

        Affly,
        Vivek

No German visa required for US Permanent Resident

I believe that if you're an US permanent resident holding an Indian passport then most probably you don't require any transit or even tourist visa. Anyway, please re-check with German consulate.
          Good luck.

Is the transit visa needed or not?

The news article says transit visa is needed when going to US via Frankfurt.

But when I send an email to the German Consulate in Atlanta, they said if the visa is valid then the transit visa is not needed.

            I am confused now.

Do we need transit visa only when traveling to US via Frankfurt, or to India also?

              Racism!

This new German Transit Visa constitutes as a discrimination factor! It is blatant racism. None of our politicians protest against this. They are even ready to get strip searched, because the tax payers pay their travel money! I will make sure that I will never travel through London or Frankfurt. Amsterdam here I come.
But Bangaloreans will have a tough time! The only other option is Singapore airlines, but those on the east coast will have to travel across US and then from LAX to Sing and to Blore! I guess it is better than the Singapore Airlines flight from Newark to Sing via Frank'fart'.

How can we lead a protest against this foolish transit fee!

As I understand if a terminal change is happening at FRA then only a transit visa may be required. My questions...

                1. Is there a terminal change in DEL-FRA-ORD flight of Air India
                2. How do you get a transit visa at FRA (e.g. you fill up some form? need photos? fees (currency)?, etc. etc.)

Someone who have already experienced above, please confirm.

My parents have a transit stop in Frankfurt and they are changing flights in the same terminal - Terminal 1.
The guy from consulate general, Boston says they need to get transit visa before boarding the flight.
Suckers! Now my parents need to go to Chennai!
Any ideas how long will it take?

Do they need to get it before boarding the flight in Hyderabad, India
OR as your website says, they can get it at the airport on their arrival at Frankfurt airport?

                      German Transit Visa

I travelled from US to India last week and found out more on this. If your US visa has expired (as in my case), then you need to get a German transit visa. I applied for it in NYC and got it on the same day. But the sad part was that inspite of taking the trouble of doing this, nobody checked the stamping anywhere during my transit. Even if i had not taken the trouble of getting it stamped, i would have passed through Germany without a problem.

Indian airport transit travellers, who are holding a valid visa for the USA, Canada or Switzerland are not obliged to obtain a transit visa prior to departure. Until further notice for these travellers a “visa on arrival” will be issued by the competent authorities at the respective German airport and no specific action is required from them to obtain these visa.

My mom-in-law travelled last week via Frankfurt by Air India.
If there is no change of terminal, no transit visa is required at Frankfurt.

                            Dont worry abt Transit visa

                            Hi,

                            This is my experience.
I also had this same doubt on whether i need a transit visa while flying thro frankfurt enroute to the US.

I flew by Air India in the first week of Oct 2005 from mumbai to chicago and i did not have any problem with that even though we did stop at frankfurt and i did not get a transit visa.

As soon as we landed at frankfurt airport, they gave all passengers who were continuing their journey from there on the same plane, a pink card with the words written "transit passengers". This card was asked for while boarding the plane again.

But ofcourse we got off and got on again at the same terminal. In the 2 hours that we were there, we walked all about the airport just to kill time and went through many sections of the airport (even though most fellow passengers were just siting in the room that they asked us to wait in). While coming back, we even went through security check at one place as we wandered into the domestic flights region too and no one asked us for a transit visa at any place. That pink transit passenger card and your air india boarding pass was all that was needed.

I hope this info helps somebody. GL.
