  • Parents visitor visa - Parents Name mismatch in my passport and parents passport

    Hi,

I am in USA and applying for visitor visa of my parents who are in India.

The name of my mother and father on their passports are different than their names in my passport.
Their passport is having the right name and I am having the incorrect names on it. Not only the passport, I am having this same incorrect name on all of my school/college certificates.

I am now renewing my passport in USA and at the same time I wanted to change parents name. Can I just submit their passport copies as ID proof for name changes on my passport or am I required to share any other documents?

Also if I change parents name on passport now, I will still have incorrect names on my school/college certificates. Will there be any impact if I don’t change on those certificates?

    Thanks in advance.

By incorrect name, is it small spelling different or totally different name (and last name) ?

Hi thank you for your response.
Actually I am having a spelling mistake of parents names (surname) in my passport. I am applying for Passport renewal here in USA, so I am updating their names as well during renewal. To update their names can I submit their passport copy as proof of identity? Or any other documents required?

Also once the parents names in my passport gets updated as per their passport names, my surname will be different with their surnames.
      my surname - XYZkutti
      their surname - XYZguthi

will it be a problem when I apply B2 visa for my parents if we have different surnames?

If I understood correctly, its merely a spelling difference. USA understands that when a local name written in english, it can have multiple variations/spellings.

For example "swetha" vs "shweta" - both still pronounced same in local language. So its fine - not a big issue.
