What type of Visa is needed for a 6 month visit to the US.

Hi. My boyfriend is from the UK and I am from the US. He would like to come to the US for a 6 month visit and we were wondering what type of Visa he would need to come to the US for that length of time. Because last time he came to visit the stamp on his passport was valid for 3 months. I was also wondering what he would have to do to obtain a 10 yr. Visa. He would like to also try to apply for work here what type of visa would he need for that or does he need to have a green card to be able to work. Thank you in advance for your help.

If he was given 90 days stay, he must have come to the U.S. on Visa Waiver Program.

If he wants to stay longer (such as 6 months), he would have to apply for regular tourist visa. Details at Visitors Visa section. Whether he gets 10 years multiple entry visa or not depends upon the consular officer.

If he wants to work, he would need work permit. It would be best for him if you were to get married to him. He can get Family based green card quickly.

Otherwise, he will have to get Employment based green card.
