Visa Consulate

Hi,
I am planning to sponsor B2 VISA for my parents and was wondering if there is a strict mapping between the current address-->Consulate. To be precise, my parents current residence as well as the address in the passport shows 'Karnataka' as the current state of residence , but the closest location happens to be in Hyderabad, AP.

Are my parents mandated to get an appointment in the Chennai consulate based on the fact that their current resident state is Karnataka, although Hyderabad happens to be the closest consulate in terms of distance.

PS: I read in one of the dicsussion forums that folks from Orrissa and AP only should book an appointment in Hyderabad consulate and hence the question.

Karnataka people go to Chennai. That is how it has always been.

Recently, they have changed the rule where anyone can go anywhere. However, that system is not yet functional. Therefore, when you put Karnataka, you will only get the option for Chennai.
