Canada Visitor Visa at Washington DC

I am planning to apply for Canada's visitor Visa at the Canadian embassy in Washington DC. I will apply in person.
What I want to know is if somebody has done this and if approved do they return the passport with Visa immediately.

I know they do that by the end of the day in Detroit and Buffalo. Not sure of DC.

Even at DC they give visa by the end of the day. The process is fairly simple. We have applied in person for my parents around 10:00am and we got back their passports back with visa stamped by 3:00pm.

I got the visa today. Very simple process, no questions asked. They handed over the passport immediately (within half an hour). But the officer told me that it was because I was early. So the key is to go at or before 9 when they open. If you go later they give back the passport by 2:30 or so.
