Traveling while visa is processing

For context, I’m applying for a long term student visa for Spain (I’m in Miami). The consulate told me I can send in a notarized copy of my passport and when my visa is resolved, show the original https://speedtest.vet/ https://vidmate.bid/ .

Does anyone know if I can leave the country with my passport in the meanwhile? I have trip coming up in 10 days so I don’t know if to send everything in or wait until after my trip. Any help is appreciated!
