I’m in a long distance relationship with my partner who is from the USA and we are keen to expedite the visa process so I can live with him asap. We were going to start the K1 visa process but now wonder if we can skip that by getting married right away then applying for a green card for me? Or must we go the K1 visa route?

Yes, you can marry right away and then be petitioned and wait abroad for an immigrant visa. However, that is not faster than a K1 visa.
