Does passport expiration date affect length of visa?

Hey y'all. I have an American passport (expiring March 2025), and am working on applying for a New Zealand Holiday Visa. I'm currently working on renewing my passport, but I'm wondering if I apply right now for a visa, if it would only be approved to go until March, instead of a full year. Anybody have experience with this?
