  • Getting Married

    I am getting married in a short span and planning to travel on business visit to US along with my spouse. Right now both of our visa application has the marital status Single. And by the time we attend the visa interview , we will be married. But both of us are travelling sponsored by our organisation(and not as dependents). So please clarify if we need to change our marital status in the visa form and should we endorse the passport with spouse name.Is it required, if we are not travelling as dependents?Also please clarify whether we need to carry our marriage certificate to the consulate?

    You can tell the officer that you recently got married and whether you need to update your application. If yes, change it. Else leave it.

    It would be safer to carry marriage certificate.

      Hi Immihelp,
      Thanks for the suggestion. But i am not clear whom you are referring to as "officer". please let me know with whom i should clarify if it is required to update it or not. My organisation says that i dont have to. But my doubt is, if the embassy poses some Q like "are u married" , and if the application still shows "Single" then it is trouble. Even if i take the marriage certificate wont they ask me "u had time after marriage and your visa interview. Why u dint update marital status in the application".
      The other concern i have is, if i need to establish my r'ship with my wife during my stay in US(provided i dont update the marital status as per my organisation says) wud that not be problem even though i have the marriage certificate. So please clarify on this and if you feel that i need to update, please let me know what changes i need to do visa application and passport(both mine and my spouse) and what other supporting documents i need to carry to embassy during interview?(The visa is L1 Blanket)

      Thanking you in anticipation.

        officer = US consulate officer

        Have already submitted application to the embassy? If yes, if asked, you can tell them that at the time of application, I was single and now I am married.

        If you have not submitted the application yet, fill new one.

        You don't have to update anything in passport necessarily.
