  • Global Talent Visa extension

Hi, I received an independent fellowship known as Humboldt Fellowship for postdocs to work in Germany for 2 years, I completed that 2 years of research and moved to the Uk on the basis of that and applied for Global Talent Visa. In Uk, I am working as a Data scientist, which is different from Humboldt fellowship that I received, would I face issue in extension of my visa or in getting ILR? I got endorsement from Royal Society.

    Hello,

It's great you secured the Humboldt Fellowship and the Global Talent Visa! Let's break down your concerns about visa extension and ILR in the UK, considering your career shift from postdoctoral research to data science.

Key Factors for Global Talent Visa Extension and ILR:

    Endorsement by the Royal Society:
This is a significant advantage. The Royal Society's endorsement confirms your exceptional talent in your field.
However, the endorsement is based on your potential and past achievements, not necessarily on your current job role.
    Demonstrating Continued Contribution: Official Site
For both extension and ILR, you'll need to demonstrate that you've continued to contribute to your field in the UK.
This doesn't necessarily mean staying in the exact same field as your Humboldt Fellowship.
The Global Talent Visa is designed to attract those who are leaders or potential leaders in their respective fields. Therefore, the home office will be more concerned with the quality of your work and contributions, rather than the exact field.
    Evidence of Exceptional Talent:
You'll need to provide evidence of your continued exceptional talent. This could include:
Publications, presentations, and patents (if applicable).
Impact of your work in data science.
    Awards, recognition, and leadership roles.
Contributions to the field through open-source projects, community involvement, etc.
Evidence of how your data science work is innovative.
    Meeting the Residence Requirement:
You'll need to meet the UK's residence requirements for ILR.
    Good Character:
Having a good character is also required.
Potential Concerns and How to Address Them:

    Career Shift:
The fact that you've moved from postdoctoral research to data science might raise questions.
However, the Global Talent Visa is flexible.
You should focus on demonstrating how your skills and expertise from your research have transferred to your data science role.
Highlight the innovative aspects of your data science work and its impact.
Show how your data science work is still within the spirit of the global talent visa, and that you are still a leader or potential leader in your field.

    Best Regards

Hi, congratulations on your Humboldt Fellowship and your career progress! Since you received your Global Talent Visa endorsement from the Royal Society, your work as a Data Scientist may still align with the broader category of exceptional talent in your field. However, for visa extensions or ILR, you may need to demonstrate that your work continues to contribute to your endorsed field. It’s best to consult an immigration lawyer or UKVI for specific guidance based on your case.
