Visitor Visa Question

I filled DS 160 forms for my parents and mentioned duration of stay in US as 6 months. I submitted the form and book the appointment on Jan 31st 2011.

My mother is government employee and only got 3 months leave. If consulate officer asks about intended stay of US, what should my parents say?

Please help me.

They should tell the truth. They planned to stay for 6 months but due to non availability of leave, they will return in 3 months' time.
