  • Visitor's visa for my parents

    Hello,

I got my Greencard recently through my husband. We are planning to get my parents here sometime during April this year. We are in the process of sponsoring their visa. Both of us are IT professionals and earn a decent salary. My husband told me that it will be advantageous if I sponsor my parent’s visa instead of him. I have been in US for just 3 years whereas my husband is here from past 12 years. He doesn’t have a problem to sponsor my parent’s visa, but it’s just that few of his friends suggested that if I sponsor the case will be much stronger. Can any of you please share your experiences/thoughts as to what would be the best approach in this situation? Thanks.

It does not matter much. If your parents have sufficient funds they can sponsor their own trip and you can send them an informal invitation letter.
There is technically no Visitor visa sponsorship, you only pay for somebody's trip and provide them with a reason to visit the US.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

Hello - Thank you for the quick response. Suppose if i want to sponsor their visit here, is there a minimum bank balance that is required for me to maintain in order for their visa's to be approved? Thanks.

        There is no such requirement.

If you want your parents to visit your for short durations (<6 months) they can apply for their Visitor visa and you can provide funds for their trip.
For long term stay you will need to file green card for them.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.
