  • My parents Visitor visa was rejected twice

First I would like to thank to the person / team who is maintaining this website.

My parents visa got rejected twice in Mumbai consulate. My parents have three sons. Me, my elder brother and my younger brother. Me and my younger brother both are in USA and my elder brother lives with my parents in India.

First my parents appeared for the VISA interview on Jan 31st 2005. VISA got rejected with 214(b) form given. Following were questions asked.

    q. How may children's do you have.
    a. Three.
    q. Where are they.
    a. two in usa, elder one with us in Mumbai.
    q. What do you do ?
    a. I am retired (My Dad got retired in Dec 2004)
    q. How long you will stay in USA.
    a. For 3 months.

In the application we wrote for 6 months. No more question asked and they rejected the VISA with form 214(b). "Applicant could not justify for length of stay". I know it was mistake from my Dad's part not sticking to what they wrote in the application.

They again applied for the interview which happened today March 17, 2005. Consulate person said that your VISA application was recently rejected, you have two sons in USA, you recently got retired so you do not qualify to get VISA. That's it. Both the times they did not check even a single paper.

What do we do now ? Shall we apply again soon or we should wait for some time.

How can we influence the officer that my parents will come back after 6 months stay and they don't intend to move to USA? I am thinking to visit India (just to get this job done) and take my parents with me to the Mumbai consulate. You think that will make any difference? Another thought was to meet my State's (New Hampshire) Attorney General OR Congress man and take letter from him/her.

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mishra

Do they allow ppl other than the interview candidates inside mumbai consulate? I dont think so!! Unless Mumbai consulate has special exceptions. So..wht good is u gng to india for this job gonna do, other than giving a moral boost to ur parents ofcourse.

Secondly, the letter from congressman etc, well I've heard of only one case whr it worked. And I really doubt if the letter had anything to do with it. There are arguments on either ends abt this particular thing. Will it help..well I dont know, but wht harm can come from having one....?? Upto one's own perception and decision. So u think and decide based on ur way of looking at it.

Isnt it sad tht we have to come up with so many things, all extra or over wht is actually necessary, to get genuine ppl a visitor's visa.

Best of Luck on the next attempt !! I hope they get it this time

Good to know that someone other than us is taking time to respond to the questions.

      Good job.

Keep it up. We really appreciate.

        @ Immihelp

I was expecting either my id to be trashed out royally...or an e-mail asking to keep my hands off this site..lol..

Guess tht shows how sad n disappointed I am with my own experience on consulate's way of working.

I got to admit though, I never wanted to mention here on wht all I've observed abt the consulate, till I knew for sure I was done trying for my parents. Otherwise, I wud've had competition from my own pals trying my own ways against me :P

I emailed Mumbai-Consulate and their reply was that no one other than candidate/applicant can appear for the interview not even the sponsor.
