  • Question regarding parent's B1/B2 visa

I have a question regarding my father's travel visa application:-

    1. My passport has my father's surname as: Gahlot
    2. Although, he has been using 'Verma' as his surname for all his education and businesses.
    3. He still doesn't have a passport.

The point where we are stuck is that what surname should he be using to make his passport, Gahlot or Verma?

Does it make a very big difference to US embassy while evaluating his tourist visa application (when I invite him to the US) that the surname on his own passport doesn't match with the surname that my passport show in the father's name column?

Please help me so that we can start the process of getting his passport issued asap.

Please explain why your father has two surnames.

Or, please explain why your passport has father's surname different than all your father's documents.

I probably understand what is going on, but I want to hear from you to be sure.

I think it was never a matter that he thought about seriously. When I was admitted in school, father's name that was given was "Gahlot" and he always did business and all his education by "Verma". My grand father also had "Gahlot" surname. He always studies and started his business with his maternal side cousins/uncles and they all use "Verma" surname so I guess that's the origin of "Verma".

He has already gotten a birth certificate in which his surname is "Gahlot".

Although, he is having a hard time in getting the passport with surname "Gahlot". My biggest worry is that even if he manages to get the passport with "Gahlot" surname, would he not have problems with US embassy to prove his businesses and properties etc.? and they will want to see all that, right? to make sure that he comes back to India after the visit etc.

Please guide me here...what's best for him..passport with "Gahlot" surname or "Verma" surname?

      Thanks a bunch in advance!!
