  • Parents visitor visa rejected - please advice

    Hi all,
My parents applied for visitors visa on March 11th and got rejected.

My father is retired and my mom is still employed as a government employee.
I showed myself as sponsoring the trip and have sufficient bank balance to support them.

I had provided all documents and my parents had carried all required documents including property papers, bank account statements, close relatives pictures, cover letter etc. but they never looked at anything.

We had used a Hindi translator.

    Q asked
    - Why are you going to uS
A Tourism and visiting our daughter

    - Where does your daughter live
    A Answered correctly

    - Which company is she working for
    A Answered correctly

    - Do you have the employment letter?
A showed the one I had sent

    - Do you have any other kids
    - Yes one daughter

    - Is she married?
    - Yes

Thats it and then she said we can't give you visa and handed them the 214(b) booklet

The only issue I see with our application was we requested for 5 months stay (I think it should have been less).
Also should my parents have offered her to take a look at the documnets?
I am planning to apply again for their visa next month.

Please advice what can I do to change the decision.

    - I am thinking of specifying 1 month stay only
    - also my mom retired on March 31st so in april mom and dad both will be retired.

Please advice, I will apply for interview date for them in April again.

    - This time we will mention 2 months only, will it help or draw suspicion?

    - Also will getting visa of other asian tourists countries help?

This time I will ask them to offer the documents to the VO supporting each answer.

      B2 Rejection.

      Hi:

My parent’s visa too rejected on March 11 at Mumbai. In DS-160 I mentioned their stay for 2 months. My mother has a farming land/ home/ property at Ratnagiri & father is working part time in Mumbai. My sister is unmarried and staying with my parents. My Mother’s mother (age 85) is staying as well with my parents. That too was not sufficient. I am as well not sure what to do now. I would suggest do not re-apply immediately. Wait for at least 6 months or year is the best. I am going to try my luck next year now. Its all game of luck.

Last year my in-laws granted visa for 10 years with no income shown on DS-160. Surprise…!!!

      Regards

        Bhawna,

        I feel sorry for you..

My parents had an interview at mombai 23rd marcha nd I have the same case..their visa is also rejected...

my parents were saying that they had too many denials on 22 and 23 march for visitors..

my father is also retired and I am thinking that could be the reason,,,

any advise ? I am thinking to have another date on april at the same consulate.,,,mumbai

Sorry to hear about Visa denial I know how it feels. Went through it last year.
The officers hardly look at the documents. What they focus on is the visa application. Particularly the 'work' column.

The last time my father's Visa got denied, we had mentioned his old business from which he had retired, in the work column. The VO ONLY asked about the old business.

This time we mentioned only the property details, again VO only asked about that, got convinced and gave Visa. He still didn't look at the property papers, though my father took them out.

Also, less or more months I don't think matter. Just be truthful and confident.
Hope this helps. All the best.

My mother's B2 visa too got rejected.. Any suggestion

My Mother's B2 visa interview was today at Mumbai Consulate. She is not good with English so we had her interview in Hindi. She is a government employee earning 20,000 pm. My Father, Brother and sister-in-law all are in India. My father also in a Government service didn't get the leave so she was alone applicant.
The Visa Officer just asked the following questions and said sorry!.

            1. Why do you want to go to USA ?
Ans : To visit places and meet my daughter

            2. Where do you work ?
Ans : I work in Government ABC School and teach science to middle students.

            3. How much you earn ?
            Ans : 20K pm

            4. For how long you want to visit ?
            Ans : about 3 months

            5. Are your leave sanctioned ?
Ans : Yes.. she mentioned the dates May - July

            6. Why is your husband not accompanying you ?
Ans : He didn't get leave.

Thats it.. she was handed over 214(b) rejection reason letter.
They did not even asked for a single document. She had all documents Bank statements, Property documents, Leave Sanction Letter. Also she had my Bank letter (having sufficient balance to take care of all her trip), Employer letter, invitation letter etc... I am on L1B in USA.

I am stll wondering what went wrong. Regarding ties with India I thought her being in Government Service and my father, brother being in India wll help.
Also on financial terms I thought having property in India and me sponsoring all her visit expenses should be enough....

Pls advice when should I re apply in next 6 weeks ? and with what changes in her situation ?
If my father also applies with her for the visa will it help ?
Any other thing whch I should change now!
Getting a Visa Agent .. will it change anything ?

Also for all 3 people in front of her in the Queue for the interview got B2 refusal.1. Is that the VO was in bad mood and we were unlucky!!... Pls advice

Ritu, I feel bad for you. Your mom had a strong case. It's just it was not her day. I feel the VO looks at the work column in visa application.

Maybe the VO thought your mom might land up a job in USA (science teachers are in great demand!). You can try again after a few months. I don't think agents help. The travel agent my father was working with spoiled his case the first time.

All the best, hope it works the next time. It all depends on luck and the VO. I wish these officers were more considerate.

                B2 Rejections

Dees a quick question for you.

As you have written your Father granted a visa in 2nd attempt when you added property details. Just like to know how much monthly income you entered for your Father in work column.

                Thanks

After first time visa denial I am planning to send a letter to the consulate.
You can find samples from Google if you search as "sample-reapply-letter-visitors-visa-usa".
We will make 2 copies of the letter. One will be with my parents. Another, we will fax it a day before to the US Consulate where they will be interviewed. I think this should help in our case.

Thanks Dees ! for your reply

I donno what to change when I apply next time. If I mention in the "work" section of DS 160 that she teaches in a school without mentioning the subject-science , will it help ? or may cause trouble ?
Also as she has summer vacation in May and June, she can only come that time, so if she goes for visa interview in say May (after 2 months of rejection), we have to reduce the duration of stay from the previous application's 3 months to 6 weeks. Is that ok ?
Also my father will also apply for the visa with his leave sanaction letter for same 6 weeks.
Is the above mentioned scenario ok for reapplication ? for it may cause VO to suspect more ?

                      Hi Ritu,

Even if you write 'teacher /teaching' in work column without the subject name, you won't be lying. In any case the VO might ask about the subject she teaches as he did the 1st time. You have to tell the truth. It was just my guess as to why he rejected in the 1st place.

A change from 3 months to 6 weeks does sound suspicious from VO's perspective. You can even try to apply end of April and write 2 months as stay.

Your mom's case is not weak. I still fail to understand why she didn't get visa. You can try for both your parents this time. Also, she answered her other daughter is married- May be she could add married and in India (if that's the case). Basically, the VO wants to see the applicant's strong ties in India, so that they come back! Out of the few questions that an applicant is asked, u have to maximize your case through your answers.
We wanted to specify that my father has a son in India and property- 2 strong ties! But in application there is no way you can write about your kids. When the VO asked my dad,"what do u do?"
He answered- that he is retired, has rental property and a son working in so and so place. So he highlighted the 2 strong ties and VO got convinced. I know you have to be to the point, but you also have to make your case strong. This worked for us , so sharing with you.

In the end it's a matter of luck, and God willing your parents might get visa the 2nd time. All my suggestions are just my perspective. It has to be your judgement as to what to write and answer in the end. All the best!!

Hi Amit, we didn't mention any monthly income as the form specified to mention salary 'only if you are employed'. The VO asked my dad about his property's value. My dad answered correctly and took out papers to show (VO didn't see them though).
The VO aslos asked as to what my dad does, and he mentioned that he's retired but has rental property, and a son who lives in a different city. Such little details at times prove enough social ties.

                        Hope this helps!

                              Hello All,

I would also like to know few details ---

My parents Visa has been rejected twice, they never mention the reason Why?
I felt its cause they don't hv a reason for come back as I am the only daughter and they dnt hv property nor settled job.

My Q was, this time I am sponsoring them...... do they require to show any docs from their end?

and my mom's brother lives in the USA, would that be a problem?

Thanks so much for your help in advance....
