Hello,
I was wondering if you can help me figure this out. My wife and I were married in 2007. She came on a fiance visa and we were married here. We had a ceremony in India, as it would have been easier for everyone in India to attend a ceremony in India rather than the US. Anyway, Last year in 2010, I helped apply for my mother-in-law's tourist visa. She received a 10 year visa with ease. From my understanding, they asked a couple questions about her daughter and didn't really look at the paperwork. This year, I helped apply for my father-in-law's visa. I had the same paperwork (updated) and had everything organized the same way last time. He went for his appointment and was asked about why he didn't go to the wedding in the US. Since we had a ceremony in India, we just had our court marriage in the US. The agent was abrupt and said I'm not convinced, and rejected him. I'm not sure how this could have been avoided. He would definitely not be a flight risk for several reasons:
1) They are building a new home.
2) My mother in law came for 4 months and went back.
3) They have two other kids who live in India and have no intentions of going abroad.
Could you tell me some options I have? I would really like him to come here so I don't have to go to India every year. It would be nice if we went one year and they came another year. I can't see using up all my vacation time to go to India every year.
Regards,
