Travelling to US-Passport Random Check in Dubai

Hi,
Today my parents are travelling to US (Chennai-Dubai-Houston). The emirates guy told that my parents passports are picked up for random check and so did not issue boarding passes to Dubai-Houston flight. He said to contact "May I Help you" counter in Dubai for the passes. Not sure what is going on. Did anyone encounter this situation before?

Any info will be helpful.

There may be some checks going on. Nothing to be concerned about.
