Visiting visa appointment in different consulate

Hi,

I kind of confused now. I thought Indian residents can apply to any consulate for U.S visa. However, many of my colleagues are not suggesting that way, mentioning that VO can ask to reapply in different consulate.

I already had slots in Chennai for my parents living in Andhra.
For us Chennai is close to visit.

I cannot find dates in Hyderabad now. What is the process to re-apply for Hyderabad? or is it ok to proceed with Chennai, which I think should not be a problem as we have valid reasons and documentation etc...
