Passport has stepmother name, need to invite mother to US

I am sendin this post on behalf of my friend

My friend parents got divorced and father got married again. He would like to invite his mother to visit him in US for sometime. His mother is running own business in India.

However he has his step mothers name in the passport. Please suggest whether he can invite his mom and show the relationship as "son" in the I134 form, or should he invite his mom as family friend or so.

Does your friend have birth certificate? Does it show mother's name in that? If yes, he can show that as proof.

Otherwise, show some other reasonable proof that she is his real mother.
