  • Surname issue- a different & unique problem

I have gone through almost all the discussions on this forum regarding the "blank surname in passport" issue. Appreciate the prompt and quality responses from the persons concerned.

However, my case is a bit different from all the scenarios discussed here. It is like this.

    My father's passport reads as:
    Surname: Blank
    Given name: X Y

Now, while applying for his visitors visa (B2), I know there is an option in DS-160 where his last name can be put as his given name in passport (X Y) and his first name can be put as FNU.

But, I do not want to go with this option, that is, I do not want his visa to have first name as FNU and last name as X Y.

My question is that would it be ok if in the DS-160 form, I put his last name as Y and first name as X, in which case, his visa will also have last name as Y and first name as X.

Request you to help me with this asap.

    Thanks in advance

Your case is no different from thousands of others.

If you don't want FNU in the visa, you will have to get the name in passport changed first.
