  • Sponsorhip discrepancy between DS forms and Visa Interview

    Hello,

    My In-laws attended B1/B2 Visa interview in Gujarati in Mumbai on 05/04 and got rejected with 214b.

    Visa Interview:
    ==========

    - Why do you want to go to US?
    Ans: To visit my daughter and son-in-law and visit some tourist places like Niagara, New York, Statue of liberty etc...

    - What do you do?
    Ans: I work for ECGC which stands for Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India, a central government organization. I have been working for them for the past 35 years and I'm the branch manager now.

    - Who is sponsoring you?
    Ans: My son-in-law. NOTE: By mistake, my father-in-law indicated self sponsorship on DS forms which contradicts with the answer.

    - What does he do?
    Ans: My son-in-law works for Samsung and is on H1b Visa.

    - What is your annual income?
    Ans: Rs 6 Lakhs annually.

    - How long do you want to stay in the US?
    Ans: 4 weeks.

    - What does your daughter do in US?
    Ans: She is a house wife.

    VISA DENIED without any verbal reasons and they were handed form 214b (Inability to demonstrate strong Social and Economic ties in India). No documentation requested during the interview.

    QUESTIONS:
    =========

    1) Do you think the sponsorship discrepancy between DS form and Interview may have caused the rejection?

    2) We plan to schedule a second interview with the updated DS forms (son-in-law sponsoring). Will the old and new DS forms be compared? If asked, we plan to admit the mistake on the DS forms. My father filled the forms in advance and mentioned self sponsorship as he is financially capable. Later we decided to have me (son-in-law) sponsor them. He forgot to update the DS forms accordingly. In the interview he said "my son-in-law is sponsoring us". Is this a proper response?

    3) How can we address the 214b in the second interview? What sort of questions can be expected? My In-laws are financially sound, they have a 21 year old son in India, they have a big family and own substantial property. They intend to visit us for 4 weeks. My father-in-law has the No Objection certificate as well as the leave sanction letter that states that he has been granted leave for 4 weeks and must return to office on YYYY date.

    Your inputs will be appreciated.

    Thanks
