My mother applied for a visitor visa, but it was rejected as she was considered a potential immigrant.
My mother is over 75 years. She has visited US twice before, about 20 years ago and has the least desire to settle down here. She is a very, very active person and the general lifestyle in the US is not be her cup of tea. All the 4 of her children are in the US. Two of are us are US Citizens. My sister who is a US citizen accompanied her to the interview, but had to wait out as none was allowed to accomapny my mother. The consular officer asked if any of her citizen children were with her that day and then also asked of she can get the passport of my sister who was outside. Then within the same minute he changed his mind as rejected the visa citing the potential immigrant reason.
What could be the possible reason for this? Because she does not want to emigrate we applied for visitor visa. Else, we could have applied for an immigrant visa long ago as a parent of a citizen and without any waiting period, she could have potentially got her visa within a few months. But that will force her to travel more often which she does not want to.
How can we convince the consular officer that all we want is a visitor visa and not an immigrant visa? Can anyone please suggest the best approach. Thanks.
