Parents Self Sponsoring

My parents are planning for a visit to US and we were checking the feasibility of self sponsoring.
My dad is working and my mom is a housewife. So can my dad sponsor both himself and my mom.
From the suggested list of documents one of them is the IT Proof. Being a housewife she doesnt need to pay IT. But she has joint accounts with my dad.
So will the bank statements suffice or is there something else that she would need.
Please suggest
