  • B2 Visa for my mom - Occupation Confusion!

    Dear moderator and members,

Thank you so much for reading my post. I am a LPR trying to arrange a B2 visa for my mother living Bangladesh. I know there isn't many member from BD but just trying to generalize the problem in terms for B2 visa applicant.

A little background of my family. My father used to be an Industrialist and owns about 6-7 apartments in Dhaka city (all of them are rental except for the office apartment and the one my mom lives) and many agricultural lands. My mother has got bulk amount of money in account, in all you can say pretty established in Bangladesh. However, my father recently passed away. And all our property and company is in his name. Since me and my only brother living overseas, my mother has got all the responsibility to manage all these property, bank accounts, manufacturing industry which in the process of closure (but it will need atleast 2-3 years as closing process in BD is really slow). My mother did not have to pay any Tax until now, as all of those assets were under my father's name and he paid Taxes for those, all taxes are cleared upto fiscal year 2010-2011 (unfortunately my father passed away on March 2011 at the age of 58). My mother and we inherited all these assets and are planning to open tax book from 2011-2012.

In such situation, what should be my mother's ocupation as she is technically the owner of all these properties and the company we have? Although she is the owner/director by inherritance of this company, there is no such paperwork until now obtained from joint stock to prove. So, if I put Housewife as her occupation, there is no way I can put her monthly salary/revenue which I believe should impact the outcome of the visa decission. Otherwise, my mother can go with last one year's bank statement(which is significantly large amount), affidavit of properties and income along with the original deeds, my father's Tax paper for 2010-2011 and company's Tax 2010-2011. Do you think by putting her occupation as housewife (while she is actually managing a whole lot of responsibilities in absence of my brother and me) will count as a negative point for her? My mother has no intention to migrate to USA or any other countries in the world whatsoever as she has a better life in BD.

Please help..And sorry for inner details as I really want her to come to see me in USA and show her new places....

Thanks all and I really appreciate your replies...

That's OK. Occupation can change. Just explain what happened.

Only problem is, they don't wanna listen to the explainations..afraid of the fact, if they think it is a discrepancy and disqualify, I will definitely feel bad...well, I know for fact that whatever we are going to say and provide is truth and nothing but truth!

Another concern, since my mother is sponsoring herself, do I still need to provide my tax return papers? Otherwise, I sent Invitation letter, copy of LPR,DL,SSN,Passport,Birthcertificate etc.

          Thanks

            Dear Immihelp and other members:

I was going through the step by step guide and just wanted to make sure that, is it ok to include all monthly income regardless of source as "Salary"?

My mother has 3 source of income everymonth : 1.Savings Certificate 2. Rental Apartments 3. Income from Agricultural Land

But these are not salary but these are INCOME...

Please help... I am filling out my mom's application.

            Thanks
