I am working on a H1B visa in Chicago. I wanted to invite my dad and sister to america to show them around. My dad and sister had appeared for an interview at the New Delhi embassy on 28th Feb. The consular officer issued visa to my dad but refused my sister under 214b. My dad has retired as a Major General from the Indian Army and my sister works as a Asst Manager with a Software Company in Delhi. I was very disappointed and wrote a letter to Senator Richard Durbin of illinois. He was very prompt and gave me a letter of recommendation and asked my sister to take it along with her to the embassy. Now the problem is that there is a 4 months waiting list to get an appt again. And people who have been refused visa in last one yr cannot get an emergency appt. This whole US visa thing is going from bad to worse.I don't understand, instead of streamlining things it is becoming a mess and no one is willing to address it.Soon they will start showing a waiting list of one year. How come when i came in 2001, a person could go for a visa appt in the morning and by afternoon u could collect your passport. We are really disappointed that although now we have a letter from the Senator we can't even get an appointment. Please advise if anyone has had a similar experience.
Thanks,
Kshitij.
