  • Request advice on my Mother's B2 case

I am on H1b since 10 months. My wife is on H1b since 4 yrs. We would like to invite my mother, a widow and a housewife, on B2 visa for 3-4 months. My brother, well settled businessman, is interested to visit U.S for a week. We never applied for any B2 prev. Now, here are my questions -

    1. Is it advisable to apply for two B2 visas simultaneously. Or, are there more chances if my Mom applies first?
    2. Is it okay if my mother and brother apply together?
    3. My mom cannot speak or understand English. She is okay in Hindi but most comfortable in Punjabi. Brother is fluent in English. Which language should I book the interview? I believe if they go together my brother can translate for her, correct? If so, what if she go alone?
    4. Mom is housewife. Have all ancestral property, agri land and house, in her name. Is it sufficient to carry property dox and lease income receipts?
    5. Her visit is strictly for tourism. What is the time period that we should mention for her visit? 1,3 or 6 months? In other words, is there something like " lesser the better"? I would like for her visa to be stamped once, even if for 1 month...later she can re apply for 6 months.
    6. Most important, should me and my wife jointly apply or only me or only her? We file tax returns jointly.

Your mother and brother can apply for their visas and you or your wife can fund their trip. If they have sufficient funds of their own, you can provide invitation and they can fund their own trip. If they are self-funding they can apply together for Punjabi interview and if you are funding their trip they can apply separately. The visa itself is not sponsored only the trip is sponsored by someone. She should mention whatever time she is planning to be in the US. 6 months is the maximum allowed for any one trip. Land documents are helpful in showing ties to home country.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.
