  • Applying B2 visa outside the home country

I am from India and currently studying Master degree in Sweden,it has been more than year that i am here. I am planning to travel around California for 12 days to visit my cousin for short visit. I am sponsoring myself and have enough money in my bank account to support my trip, (around 6000 dollar). I came to know about recent case where one of the candidate was rejected for the reason 'No Strong ties to Sweden'......I am a free mover and do not need to pay for the tution fees , isn't this the big ties with Sweden. I am not foolish man to leave my Master degree (worth more than 39000 USD) and hide there in US. Please suggest me something ....

You will need to go back to India and apply from there. There is no provision for applying for a US visa from a country you do not have strong financial, social and familial ties.

Unless you have been working in a foreign country for several years paying taxes and have property of some nature in the foreign country only then will you be able to apply for a visa.

I am bit confused right now what to do, since i have already paid for Visa fee and my appoinment is in 20 th of july.I don't have that option to go back to India and apply for a Visa, and to be honest I don't want to just go to India only to apply for US Visa.Since i am here & it has been more than 1 yrs , i am staying here,i am still saying, Master degree(free education) is my strong ties to Sweden.I have completed 9 Subject of my course, and right now i have 3 remaining subjects & thesis to complete my Master.ISn't this a big ties to any student? After my Master i will have many opportunity to travel around the globe, how can i convince US consular that my plan is not to hide there in US.

You can take your chances. But as a matter of coincidence, I applied when I was doing my masters in the UK for a US visa 12 years ago when I completed 1 year odd in the UK. It was denied stating the three ties and I received a letter stating that I have to apply from my home country and further applications would only result in a denial.
