B1/B2 VISA used as tourist visa

Hi,

My L1 was rejected. Have applied for H1. ( I Cant travel before Oct 2011 )
My wife is in US travelled on L1 VISA.

I have valid B1/B2 visa. Can I travel to US on tourist visa and stay with her for few months.
During my stay in US on tourist visa, after after my H1 is approved, Can I change the VISA status in US itself.

Please advise.
