  • Parents' Tax filing in India

I am sponsoring my parents in India to visit me to US for 6 months. They have been here to US before and their visa expired now.

    Question 1:
In the DS160, under the type of visa, it gives 3 options:
    Business
    Tourism or Medical treatment
    Business/Pleasure

I believe I should choose Tourism. Anyone who choose tourism also can chose Business/Pleasure. Which one should i choose?

    Question 2:
My father is retired from TN Government service. He currently works for a private company. He does not file taxes in India now. I do not believe his combined income from pension and his current salary from private company would qualify him to file taxes in India. Should we show that he is currently working or should we just say he is retired in DS160 application form? Usually when someone asks what his occupation, we say he is retired from TN Govt service. But his currently salary is slightly more than his pension. So, I am not sure what should we put in here.

    Question 3:
How many days in advance should we request for an interview appointment date in Chennai. Basically if we request for an interview appointment today, approximately when will we get the appointment date?

Any help would be appreciated. I do not know the current procedure as the last time i applied this B2 visa (for my parents) was almost 8 years back.

    1. Tourism.
    2. Tell the truth and say he is not qualified for tax return. Add his pension and the current salary and give that figure.
    3. Say if they want to visit you next month, then, they should apply now. Getting appointment from VFS is a major problem. You need to keep on trying.
Last para: best thing is to go through what is mentioned for visitor visa in immihelp. They are the best.
