Hi,
I am from India. I am a post-doc in a university, and I am on STEM extension for F1-OPT.
Due to some unfortunate events in our family (two deaths), my wedding has been getting postponed for last 1 year, and I cannot get married yet for quite sometime. I had been in a long distance relationship with my fiance. Now, I would like to bring her to the US for a couple of months to spend time with her.
I have a few questions:
a) I've heard that if I say "fiance" it is very difficult to get visa. She also happens to be a distant cousin of mine, so is it better to bring her as my "fiance" or as "cousin"?
b) She just got a job as a lecturer in a college, where she will be joining in Jan/Feb when the current lecturer leaves. I am wondering if the employment letter is sufficient to show her "ties to the motherland".
c) I am only partially supporting her (e.g. room, board incidental expenses, domestic travel). Her dad would be providing an "affidavit of support" for her tickets etc, which should be on a stamp paper. Should it be judicial/non-judicial stamp paper?
d) Does it matter if I provide financial support or not? Do I have to send her my bank statements with at least $5000 balance? My payslips, etc? I sent her what I have, but its not $5000, it is less than that.
e) Do scanned/emailed documents work? Or does it have to be "original", i.e. signed by me in ink? I already sent her original documents from US via postal mail. This question is when there are any changes.
Thanks a lot for your help!
*Just to add, my marriage will be in India. I am wondering if the word "fiance" would raise some red-flag since they may suspect we may get married in US.
