Indian student in Australia, Applying B2 with invitation/sponsership letter. Help

G'day,

Thanks for creating such a wonderful forum where mutual help without any economic benefit is given. Kudos to efforts. I have a little question.

I am an Indian student with VISA till 2013 studying in Australia.
My girlfriend is getting treated for Cancer in DC,USA.
I am planning to visit her there and her family can arrange sponsor /invitation letter. I would only be visiting for two weeks. Can I apply for visa here in Melbourne, Australia? What documents should I keep ready? WHat should i take care of? I am so lost with all the questions

Please help.

You may apply in Australia. But since you are not working there, you may be asked to apply from India.

Thanks for your swift reply. I am working here but it isn't a permanent position. Also because I still have two more years of study left, I don't want to go back to India to apply a visa. I have been here since an year and 4 months. Isn't is enough to be considered as a long term say and to be able to apply here?

There is no sure way to answer that. It all depends upon the consular officer what he/she decides.
